Congratulations to Olivia and George Petree on the birth of Sloane Eloise Petree, born August 17, 2021. It's great to have another new baby in the neighborhood!
Congratulations as well to Larry and Ellen Davis, who recently married!
American Crush has a rock album out! As many of you know, their lead vocalist is our very own Rekha Kaula of 2125 Colts Neck Court. American Crush brings back the vocal harmonies of Queen, the electric and acoustic groove of Led Zeppelin, the bona fide guitar hero/soloing of Van Halen and the songwriting commerciality of the Beatles. Exclusive company, to be sure, but here, at last, is a new sound to grace the airwaves and all other platforms … and they can deliver everything live, in concert, truly a lost art.
American Crush will be performing at Jammin’ Java, 227 Maple Avenue E, Vienna, VA on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021! Get your tickets early as this is a small venue and sold out when they last played there, pre-pandemic. Link for show: https://www.jamminjava.com/shows/american-crush/

We don't know if Judith Mudd-Krigelmans can sing like her daughter, but Judith will shortly publish her second book. Many of us have been waiting for the second part of her memoir after having read her first book, Flowers for Brother Mudd: One Woman's Path from Jim Crow to Career Diplomat. We will keep you posted on the publication of her book!
Mustafa Rahman has provided us with the plans for the screened in porch he put on 2139 Colts Neck Court just before the sale to Lisa. Mustafa says these plans were approved by RA and should be approved if you would like to follow suit. If anyone would like a copy, please let Debbie Carroll know as they are now a part of the cluster's records. We have requested a copy of the actual application from RA.
Cluster Cleanup: Cluster cleanup will be Saturday, October 16th. Due to Covid, we ask again that residents “do their own thing” and clean up around the cluster individually as opposed to our normal group cleanups.
A few suggestions:
There is always trash to be picked up (especially down the front on South Lakes Drive and Colts Neck Road, and along the path which cuts through the cluster)
Parking lot gutters need to be cleaned
Drainage areas need to be kept open.
Ivy to be pulled off trees.
Remember any lawn debris must be bagged in brown paper bags or cut, bundled and tied in lengths of no longer than 4 feet.
Treasurer's Report: We are pleased to announce there have been no delinquencies in dues this year. Please keep this up through the end of the year! It cuts down on the work of the Treasurer when dues are paid on time in the last quarter when all yearly reports must be figured. This could be the first year with no late fees collected.
Golf Course Update: Thank you to everyone who took the time to come to the golf course meeting and stayed quiet during their presentation. If you want to keep this property as open space, we encourage everyone to go to Rescue Reston's website and the action tab and send your own e-mails to Supervisor Alcorn, Chairman Jeffrey McKay and Planning Commissioner John Carter.
Rescue Reston has made it easy to use their site (www.rescuereston.org/) to send the e-mails to all three. Supervisor Alcorn says he wants to hear from us. As we learned at the meeting there are no covenants on that property, so should the county agree to reopen the Comprehensive Plan and permit the open space designation to be changed, we could end up with any of the things they mentioned at the meeting – crammed in housing, a small, dedicated park somewhere, a dog park and even or even a concert venue behind your homes. And for those that can, we ask you to support Rescue Reston who has led this fight before and will continue to do this. Supervisor Alcorn currently considers the redevelopment of the open space at Hidden Creek closed, as those near it let him know they opposed it. Many of us have been here for a very long time and have continued to see open space, a core of Reston, eaten up by developers.
Our new Reston Association Counselor is Erin Gable whose phone number is (703) 435-6521, and whose e-mail address is erin@reston.org (as we obtained from the RA website). Please remember when you make any changes to the outside of your property, including the removal of certain types of trees and all trees which have a diameter of 4" and larger, you need RA approval. It is taking much longer these days to get before the DRB don’t delay on beginning the process!
Trash Update – We sent out notices via the cluster's unmonitored e-mail account about the change in trash days for lawn debris. Due to labor shortages throughout the county, the County has temporarily given permission for trash companies to pick up yard debris on our second pickup day. The County will re-access this in October and we will keep you advised.
Please remember the trash rules:
Do not put out any trash until after dark the night before pickup. The wild animal are abundant about and will get into trash not properly secured.
Trash cans should be brought back in the evening of pickup.
Trash cans at the front of your house need to be screened from view, no cans are to be left on the sides of end units and recycling should be contained so it does not blow all over the cluster.
All yard debris must be placed in paper bags, no plastic bags. Branches and limbs will only be picked up if in bags or tied in bundles no longer than 4 feet.
Many have gone to covered recycling bins they purchased themselves, some are using the larger ones on wheels. If you will be out of town, ask a neighbor for help. Please write your house number on your trash cans. Also, unless you have permission from a neighbor do not use their cans.
Storm Drain Info: On the back side of this page is a flyer the County asked us to pass on to you concerning storm drains. We have several here on our property.
Annual Membership Meeting for Owners: The annual meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 6th at 7:30 p.m. at the Reston Community Center at Hunters Woods. Chairs will be placed at a social distance. Please remember to bring your mask! The Community Center requires them to be worn.
As you should have seen in the financial data distributed to all owners, the Board is recommending holding the dues for one more year at $330.00 per quarter.
Voting in Virginia's election: From the County's website we are back voting at Hughes Middle School (behind South Lakes High School) this year after being temporarily moved to the high school last year due to the construction. The polls are open November 2nd from 6 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The North County Government Center across the street from the library at 1801 Cameron Glen Drive, Reston, VA is open for early voting through October 30th. Weekdays 12:00 p.m., to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 23rd and Saturday, October 30th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday October 24th 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Lastly and most importantly, STAY SAFE! Last year this time we had hoped Covid would have been a thing of the past. Unfortunately, it is not, and times remain difficult for all of us. Everyone please do all you can to stay safe. We encourage our residents to check on each other and help where needed.
Thanks much for putting this together
